A Short Course in Soil Furtility

I am not a scientist and I don't have a college degree in biology or soil sciences, but...

Much of what I know about plant nutrition is 'self-taught'. I do however, consult and work with some very bright people who have all the fancy degrees. Here is some basic information about plant nutrition and some information about what makes Furtilizer totally unique and MORE EFFECTIVE than any other plant foods.

Over 50 factors affect plant growth and yield. These include climate factors like precipitation, air temperature, relative humidity, radiant energy, wind velocity, altitude and latitude, etc., etc. Soil factors that affect plant growth include things like organic matter, cation, exchange capacity, base saturation, root zone depth, etc" etc.

Crop factors that affect plant growth include things like evaporation, transpiration, nutrition, water availability, etc., etc. This is really quite elementary.

As YQU probably know; almost any commercial fertilizer will make plants grow. Miracle Grow is one of the leading commercial fertilizers that the common person uses. It is a 100% synthetic formula and because of this, it is relatively cheap to make. It is popular because it is widely advertised, and frankly ... it works. But, it does absolutely nothing to rejuvenate or build-up soil. As you apply Miracle Grow (or any other synthetic plant food, and even some to the popular "organic" plant foods currently on the market) the plant simply feeds upon the fertilizer. To keep the plant in 'tip·top' shape; you must keep applying the plant food. In other words, the soil just becomes a "sponge" to store the synthetic plant food.

Some people (including Agra business operations) are satisfied with this.

These farmers/gardeners really don't care about how their plants grow-they just care that they grow. They are not concerned about soil erosion, excess chemical run off, ground water. pollution, etc., etc.

'So ... why is a natural plant food better than a synthetic plant food and what

makes Furtilizerdifferent than all the others on the market?

I'm sure that you can find volumes of information about the benefits of organic fertilizers in any good library, but here are my thoughts:

Approximately sixteen elements are considered essential to plant growth. 0 say approximately as there is some minor disagreement among the 'experts' about this). There are macronutrients and micronutrients. The three main macronutrients include nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K). The N· P-K of Fu'rtilizer is 4-3-1. When compared with synthetic fertilizers this might seem low, but because of the way in which Furtilizer is formulated, and the unique blend of natural micro and macro nutrients found only in Furtilizer, the 4-3-1 N-PK level of FurtiIizer will out perform fertilizers with a much higher N·P·K level. Additional macronutrients include sulfur (S), calcium (Ca), and magnesium (Mg).

Nitrogen is vitally important in. plant nutrition and is an integral p~ of chlorophyll, which is the primary absorber of light energy needed for photosynthesis. An adequate supply of nitrogen is associated with high photo-synthetic activity, vigorous vegetative growth and a dark green foliage color. Nitrogen, like aU compounds in a good plant food, must be properly formulated in conjunction with other soil fertility inputs. The more nitrogen in a particular fertilizer "does not necessarily make it better! The synergetic action between the various macro and micronutrients in Furtilizer is unique and is part of what sets Furtilizer in a class by itself.

Phosphorus is also essential for plant life and is found in almost all plant foods.

The most essential function of phosphorus is in energy storage and transfer. A good supply of phosphorus is associated with strong root growth. Several other positive effects on plant growth are attributed to phosphorus; These include early maturity of some crops, increased tolerance to root-rot disease, improvement in fruit, forage, vegetable and grain crops. "In short simple terms, and adequate supply of phosphorus is essential for plant growth .. But, like nitrogen, more is not necessarily better. The symbiotic relationship of all ingredients in a fertilizer to the soil is vitally important and frankly, this is not given much thought by most 'mainstream' plant food manufacturers.

Potassium is also one of the main nutrients found in almost all plant foods. It is actively taken up from the soil by plant roots. Potassium functions are particularly related to the ionic strength of solutions within plant cells. These include such things as enzyme activation, water relations,· transpiration, translocation of assimilates, nitrogen uptake and protein synthesis, etc.,etc.

The micronutrients include things like iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), manganese (Mn), copper (Cu), boron (B), chlorine (CI), and molybdenum (Mo). Five additional elements - sodium (Na), cobalt (Co), vanadium (Va), nickel (Ni) and silicon are considered essential for some plant. But, in my opinion, the various interactions among plant nutrients are often overlooked" by many fertilizer manufacturers. The various interactions among plant nutrients are also overlooked [ignored?] by many [maybe most] plant foods which are officially certified as "organic", even though this has considerable influence on plant growth. Why is this so? Primarily because it is costly to incorporate all of these micronutrients into an organic plant food. In making Furtilizer, I take the time and expense to do it right!

Editor's note: God did not create all things for nothing. Everything has a purpose no matter how insignificant we think it might be. Therefore,
/ subscribe to the synergistic complex of fertile soil is important for plant nutrition and subsequently for human nutrition. / also believe (and many would agree in general) that man has screwed up nearly everything he touches. We have made incredible strides In technology, but we have forgotten that we (genealogically) started out as farmers. We really need to get back to our "roots", no pun intended. MR. Rowley

The basic chemical building block of almost all synthetic fertilizers is anhydrous nitrogen. , Most anhydrous nitrogen is chemically produced through reacting Nitrogen and Hydrogen gasses (Haber-Bosch process). This process is rather technical, but you get the point. Chemical fertilizers are extremely toxic to microorganisms, animals and the soil itselfl

Editor's note: Most farm soil is essentially sterile, deprived of minerals (a " study done by Congress in /920) and simply will not support lift. There is a biological low that states; 'Life comes from lift
t.  Do you know how much life is in the produce you are now eating? Jfyou exclaim that it is "organic" that it must have "life ", then think again, many organic farms are now owned by corporations and they are only interested in the bottom line. Put that In conjundtion with the government lowering of standards of what is organic and you will still have nutritionally deficient food on your plate. MR. Rowley

Natural plant foods like Furtilizer actually help build-up the soil. Obviously, this cannot happen overnight, but in most cases the user should start to see soil improvement within about two weeks of regular application. It is kind of akin to us humans taking vitamins. If you just take one or two vitamins every now and then, you won't see much (if any) results. However, if you take you vitamins regularly over a period of time, you will receive the maximum benefits.

The advantages of this are profound as the condition of the soil is directly related to plant growth. Through the unique synergetic properties found only in Furtilizer can improve the soil itself A strong, naturally healthy soil will improve plant growth by acting as a storehouse for macro and micro nutrients. Soil exchange capacity will be facilitated and" micrObial activity will increase. "Additionally, with regular application of Furtilizet, the water~holding capacity of soil will increase. Compaction will be reduced and this will serve as a buffer against rapid changes in acidity, alkalinity and salinity. Additionally, the organic compounds in Furtilizer can move in soils to a greater depth than can inorganic fertilizer compounds.

How do you use Furtillzer?

It is always best to mix the mini jug concentrate just prior to use. If you mix it all at once and let it sit for any length of time, you will need to shake-it-up or stir it vilzorouslv Prior to use as some of the minute organic particles will settle to the bottom of your container.

The use instructions on the brochure contain general application guidelines.

How much of the finished product anyone uses on their plants and how often they should use it, depends on many factors - what type of a plant is it? How much sunlight does the plant get? What type of soil is it planted in, etc., etc. 80 ... as with any plant food, the consumer will have to experiment a little until they find the right balance for their plants.

The general rule is this - if the plant needs watering, "water" the roots first with Furtilizer™. For example: If you normally give a houseplant on cup of water each week, then give it one cup of Furtilizer™ (diluted per instructions) each week. Then, if the plant needs additional moisture - just water with as you normally would. If you don't see results within a few weeks, the next time you water your houseplant, give it two cups ofFurtilizer™.

Let.s say you have a tomato plant - you would moisten the ground near the rootsl with a few cups of Furtilizer™. Then, if the plant needs additional moisture - justl water as you normally would. If you don't see results within a week or so, the next, time you water your tomato plant increase the dosage to three or four cups ofFurtilizerj solution on the soil above the roots. 1

The trick with any plant food is to use just enough to give the plant everything itl needs for optimum growth, but not more nutrients than it can use. Most "commercial" fertilizers sold at the big garden retailers give directions that. may seem precise to the novice gardener, but in reality they are not precise at all .. These instructions almost always cause people to over fertilize their plants!

The manufacturers know that plant growth (even plants of the same kind) require different amounts of fertilizer depending on the soil, sunlight, temperature, etc. But, they give these "generic" instructions because it is the easiest way for people to' understand how to use their product. They operate on this philosophy - give your plants a massive dose (that is, much more nutrients than the plant can possibly absorb at anyone time) and your plants will surely get enough. Moreover, when you run out,' they wm be happy to sell you morel

As you can see, the formula in our Mini Jugs is quite concentrated and is reasonably economical to use. However, when compared with some "commercial" fertilizers, Furtilizer™ does cost a little more. However, you get what you pay for! While I do sell product to farmers, Furtilizer™ is primarily used by "city folks" who are fertilizing houseplants, container gardens, hanging flower plants, etc. These people have the money to spend and they are willing to try something new and unique! Once they try it, they keep buying more product because of how effective it works.                                                                                        '

People buy and use Furtilizer™ because it is unique and it WORKS! In addition, it contains natural ingredients, which in time will actually condition the soil. If people want a "cheap" fertilizer" - I tell them to go buy Miracle Grow or some similar product. But .. .if they want the finest natural rabbit plant food available in the world-I everyone should use Furtilizer™!

Hopefully, this gives you some basic information about plant growth and what makes Furtilizer™ totally unique. If you need additional information, just let me know.

Editor's note: I personally used Furtilizer for two years before deciding to become a I manufacturer's representative for this product. I would not want to promote or sell a product that I myself did not believe in. M.R. Rowley, mrrowley72@hotmail.com
